How to Upload Custom Fonts in Squarespace: No-Code Guide [2025]
Squarespace already gives you a great selection of built-in fonts, but if you’re working with an established brand, you’ll almost always want to use their exact font. This tutorial is ideal if you want to use a font not included in Squarespace’s default library.
Good news: We used to need to hack it with some custom CSS code, but thanks to Squarespace’s new awesome update, you no longer need to be a coder to do this. Squarespace now supports native font uploads with just a few clicks of a button!
Step 1: Upload your font to Squarespace
Once you know which font you want to use, you need to make sure you’ve got the font file ready to go. To do this, you’ll need to find your font file online and download it. FYI: Some fonts may require you to pay to use them!
First, make sure you’ve got the font files (OTF, TTF, WOFF or WOFF2) and that you have the right to use them on your website either personally or commercially. I’m using a trial font for demonstration purposes in this tutorial.
To upload the font to Squarespace, log in to your account, open your website, and click on “Website” from the left menu, and then click the “Site Styles” paintbrush icon in the top right.
In the Site Styles menu, click on “Fonts”.
Inside the Fonts menu, here you can choose which font style you want to update. We’ll click “Headings” for this example, as that’s typically where most brands want to use their own custom font.
Now click “Font” at the top, so we can update the current font to our new font file.
To upload your custom font file, click the upload arrow icon as shown in the screenshot below.
Click the plus icon here to open up your computer’s file browser, and select the font file you want to use.
Boom! Your font file is now uploaded to your website. If your typeface includes multiple weights or an italic style, Squarespace is smart enough to recognise and group those variations automatically. This means you can easily choose the right weight or style for each text area across your Squarespace site.
For example, here you can see i’ve uploaded both the “Black” and “Demibold” versions of the fonts which have their own font-weights of 600 or 900 respectively (i.e. one version of the font is sort of bold, and one is very bold).
Step 2: Selecting your Uploaded font
Now that your font is uploaded to Squarespace, the next step is simply selecting it from the font menu.
You’ll now see your custom font listed under the “Uploaded” category. Once selected, all of your headings will update instantly!
From here you can apply the same font to paragraphs, buttons or any other text style across your site. Don’t worry, you won’t need to upload the same font file again to update those styles too — it’s now saved to your entire website.
Job done!
Step 3: Save and preview your changes!
After applying your custom fonts, remember to save your changes by clicking the “Save” button in the top left.
Next, click the “Preview” button to view your custom font style on your Squarespace website.
If everything looks as expected, congratulations! You have successfully uploaded custom fonts to your Squarespace 7.1 website.
